Cosmetology program
Course Objective is for every student to obtain all phases of the cosmetology program in theory and practical. To have gained the knowledge required to pass the Arkansas State Board of Cosmetology exam and attain their goals in the business industry.
COSMETOLOGY: 1500 CLOCK HOURS
Freshmen/ Pre-Clinic: 1 - 450 hours -- Includes orientation into the field of cosmetology; such as, history and career opportunities, life skills, professional image and communicating for success, manicuring and pedicuring. Introduction to basic practical skill; in hair styling, hair cutting, scalp care shampooing and conditioning, manicuring, pedicuring, clinic floor preparation and procedures for proper safety and sanitation.
Sophomore: 451 - 900 hours -- A continuation of practical skills. Theory classes in infection control: principles and practices, scalp care, shampooing and conditioning, hair styling, principles of hair design, with advance theory in chemical texture services, haircoloring and hair cutting. Customer satisfaction, proper safety and sanitation.
Junior: 901 - 1200 hours -- Continuation of regularly scheduled theory classes which include Basic chemistry, basic electricity, properties of the hair and scalp, general anatomy skin and nail structures, growth, nutrition, disorders and disease, braiding and wigs, facials, facial makeup, hair removal, nail tips and UV Gels. Continued customer satisfaction, proper safety and sanitation.
Senior: 1201 - 1500 hours -- Includes theory classes in seeking employment, on the job and salon business, state law and practical preparation and comprehensive testing for state board examination.
Program Completion Requirements
In order to graduate from the cosmetology program and receive a Certificate of Completion, a student must successfully complete the required 1500 hours, pass all theory and practical examinations with a 70% average and the overall comprehensive test 80%. All fees owed to the school must be paid in full prior graduation.
